"Motion Not Emotion" was not supposed to be a concept album. Just a concept.

A slogan, a mission statement, a reminder of what it was going to take to get where we were going. Somewhere toward the end of its creation, murky but insistent themes pushed their way through the samples and drumbreaks and revealed themselves: a troubling throughline that fit the troubling times that we've found ourselves enduring, and, in the fashion of the true narcissist, exploiting.

We painted the lint-filled pockets, the slow burn of low-grade hometown notoriety, the threat of advancing years, and the crush of New England's ever colder winter with fang-tipped brushes and pop art colors. The colors usually reserved for the tread-worn quest for fame and fortune undertaken by every American idiot, and the brushes... well, I just made that part up. There are no fang-tipped brushes. That would be ridiculous.

We made party rap records for when the party was over.

This was supposed to be a collection of songs to remind you that we were still here; what it became is a collection of songs that remind us that we won't always be. Fight to it, fuck to it, learn how to breathe to it: this is the story of the 2009 Poorly Drawn People.
